Columbus, Ohio—Columbia Gas of Ohio is the newest company to invest in Besa Promise to enhance its community philanthropic impact.
Created by Columbus nonprofit Besa, Besa Promise is software that helps companies manage philanthropic efforts. Besa Promise manages grants; it manages and tracks associate volunteer engagement; and it provides a global picture of the company’s community impact.
“Columbia Gas is committed to making a difference throughout its Ohio service territory,” said Besa Executive Director Matthew Goldstein. “And we are thrilled they are investing in Besa Promise as a tool to help them better understand, measure and grow their impact.”
Columbia Gas joins a growing list of companies—including Big Lots Stores, Inc., Safelite AutoGlass and GBQ Partners—using the philanthropy management software.
"Our employees truly understand what it takes to make our communities great, and we are so proud of the time and talent they give to life-changing organizations and programs," said Dan Creekmur, president, Columbia Gas of Ohio. "The partnership with Besa will provide us with a way of managing and tracking all employee volunteer engagement and the impact our Columbia Cares philanthropic program is making in the communities we serve."
The announcement comes on the heels of Besa winning a $50,000 grant to expand Besa Promise.
Last month, social enterprise organization SEA Change awarded Besa the grant after Goldstein participated in a 12-week SEA Change course that culminated in a public pitch. Besa and other social enterprises presented ideas on improving the community to a panel of local business and nonprofit leaders. The panel then awarded $75,000 in grants to help the winners pursue their work, giving Besa top prize.
With its grant money, Besa plans to enhance Besa Promise over the next three years from software used by a handful of companies to software used by hundreds.
Besa is a Columbus nonprofit dedicated to supporting those who need it most by connecting people and businesses with local charities, from food pantries to homeless shelters. Besa offers a portal at www.givebesa.org where Columbus residents can easily find and register for volunteer opportunities citywide; it hosts drives for various nonprofits; and it helps corporate partners manage and enhance their philanthropic efforts.
